Firefighters check structural gear for air leaks and exposed skin
Dustin Brewster (left) of the Selfridge Fire Department checks fellow firefighter Manny Alam’s uniform for exposed skin or air leaks to ensure he is secure to enter a chemically contaminated area. This exercise was simulated to prepare firefighters and other emergency response personnel in the event of a chemical spill. Bio environmental engineers test liquid to confirm chemical makeup

The campground at the Helemano Plantation in central Oahu is composed of several guest cabins, an activities pavilion, a staff cabin, and a storage shed. Personnel from 127th Civil Engineering Squadron aided in cabin construction by priming and painting building exteriors and interiors, installing drywall and insulation, and a myriad of other tasks that helped the campground’s progress. 127th CES Humanitarian Work in Hawaii
Lt. Col. Stephen Ward, commander of the 127th Civil Engineering Squadron at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Mich., rolls a first layer of paint on the ceiling of the future pavilion and activities building at the Helemano Plantation’s campground in central Oahu, Hawaii. Ward, who was in charge of 36 Selfridge personnel on the trip, stood on construction stilts to paint efficiently. The campground, which is projected to be finished by 2010, will be completely handicapped accessible and open for public use. Daniel Gerlach, 127th CES structural craftsman, fills in gaps between drywall boards with drywall mud to ensure a smooth, paintable surface on the ceiling and walls of the future staff housing at the Helemano Plantation’s campground in central Oahu, Hawaii.
