Technical Sgt. Oscar Burkes pumps up a soccer ball for eager children during a visit to the OSU Children?s Home in Accra, Ghana. Burkes and other Airmen of the 127th Civil Engineering Squadron, Michigan Air National Guard, deployed to Ghana in Africa in April 2010 to work with the Ghana Air Force to build a training building at Acota air base in the Ghana capital city of Accra. The 127th CES worked with the Flint, Mich., chapter of Safari Club to bring along a collection of medical supplies, soccer balls and other items on the trip to be donated to children?s organizations in Ghana. In addition to the donation from the Safari Club, many of the Airmen of the 127th CES who made the trip to Ghana took up a collection while in Ghana to purchase additional items for the orphanage. In addition to serving as an Airman in the Michigan Air National Guard at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Black is a student at Macomb Community College in Clinton Township, Mich., where he is studying law enforcement. By the end of the year, Black anticipates earning an associate degree from Macomb and completing the requirements for a degree from the Community College of the Air Force. Air Force enlisted personnel are automatically enrolled in the CCAF and earn credits for the technical skills they learn at military technical schools and through on-the-job training. 127th Family Services distributes care packages
Da'Nell Heino, a 127th Family Services advisor volunteer and the wife of an active duty member for the Coast Guard Sector Detroit, helps distribute care packages for active and reserve members received from the Detroit Pistons, the Palace at Auburn Hills and Feed The Children. Approximately 400 care packages were donated for local military. Da'Nell volunteers much of her time and talent during drill weekends in suppport of 127th Wing members and their families.
