Shepard, a member of the 127th Communications Squadron at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Mich., won 2012 National Trophy Pistol Match held this summer at Camp Perry, Ohio. Airborne Training
Soldiers and Airmen from the Indiana Army National Guard and Michigan Air National Guard perform a parachute drop over Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Mich., Aug. 13, 2012. During the jump, the Soldiers and Airmen are able to control their canopy to enable them to land in a targeted location. The Soldiers and Airmen spent a day conducting joint airborne operations, with each individual making several parachute jumps during the day. The training allowed the Soldiers and Airmen to maintain their proficiency in a variety of skill requirements. Gen Johns' visit
During Gen. Johns' visit to Selfridge Air National Guard Base Aug. 23-24, 2012, he had the opportunity to recognize a few 127th Wing Airmen for their significant contributions to Air Mobility Command missions. One group lauded was the crew of "Elite 51" who, after refueling an F-18 over Southwest Asia, escorted the jet to safety after it lost operation of one of its engines. Rickenbacker at Selfridge
Capt. Eddie Rickenbacker, America's Ace of Aces in World War I, poses with other members of the 94th Pursuit Squadron, the famous "Hat in the Ring" squadron, while assigned to Selfridge Field following the close of World War I. Rickenbacker and the 94th were part of the 1st Pursuit Squadron that was assigned to Selfridge in the 1920s. Rickenbacker is the third from the left, next to the Hat in the Ring insignia on the aircraft.
