Coast Guard Salutes Army at Selfridge
A group of U.S. Army CH-47 Chinook helicopters fly in formation as they fly over U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Detroit on Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Mich., in December 2011. The Coast Guard, which flies the HH-65 Dolphin helicopter at Air Station Detroit, is located near the Michigan Army National Guard’s Aviation Support Facility #2, also at Selfridge. The soldiers of the 3-238th General Support Aviation Battalion were departing Selfridge for a year-long deployment to Afghanistan. The Coast Guard personnel at the Air Station stood in formation and rendered a salute to the Army air unit as the soldiers departed the base. Aircraft maintenance crews stand by their aircraft, preparing several KC-135 Stratotankers for take-off at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Mich., Oct. 22, 2011. The Airmen and aircraft, all attached to the 127th Air Refueling Group of the Michigan Air National Guard, were participating in a training exercise during their October Unit Training Assembly. Airmen in the Michigan Air National Guard perform one “drill weekend” per month to stay current in various skill specialties.
