Confined Space Training
Firefighter Joe Crocker is lowered into an underground workspace during a confined space training exercise conducted by the Selfridge Fire Department at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Mich., Nov. 21, 2011. Military firefighters conduct annual training on working in a confined space. In this training exercise, a rescue dummy was placed in a pit normally used to access sewer pumps on the base. To add to the exercise, the firefighters ruled that the access ladder into the pit had been damaged and was unusable, creating the need to lower and raise firefighters and the “injured” dummy to the surface.
