State of the Lake
Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel, Brig. Gen. John D. Slocum and others talk prior to the “State of the Lake” news conference, in which various stakeholders talked about initiatives related to Lake St. Clair and Macomb County, Mich., June 9, 2016. Slocum, the commander of the 127th Wing at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, which has been located on the shore of Lake St. Clair since the base opened 99 years ago, talked about plans for the centennial anniversary of the base in 2017. Selfridge is also home to Coast Guard Air Station Detroit, which plays a key search and rescue role on the base; and the Border Patrol’s Detroit Sector headquarters and Customs & Border Protection Great Lakes Air & Marine Wing, both of which play a key role in ensuring national security along the northern U.S. border.
