The 127th Wing prepares to launch A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft from Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Mich., to participate in Operation Northern Strike 2014. Operation Northern Strike demonstrates the Army and Air National Guard’s ability to plan and conduct complex, joint operations. Air and ground forces will work together in real time to provide an unprecedented mix of forces and weaponry regardless of service or country. Twenty-four units from 12 States and two Coalition partners will participate in the three-week event. Over 300 Total Force fighter, bomber, mobility, and rotary sorties are planned in support of live fire exercises in order to meet stated objectives for participating units. Humanitarian Shipment
140711-Z-MI929-013 – Airmen at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Mich., load a shipment of food supplies from the Kids Against Hunger Coalition aboard a KC-135 Stratotanker, July 11, 2014. The shipment was later delivered to a nonprofit organization in Haiti. The aircraft is from the 916th Air Refueling Wing and the ground personnel are from the 127th Logistics Readiness Squadron. The Air Force was delivering the food through a program that allows military aircraft to be used to support private humanitarian efforts under certain scenarios. An F-6A, the reconnaissance variant of the P-51 Mustang, is depicted over the coast of France in this National Guard heritage painting by William S. Phillips. The aircraft was operated by the 107th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron, a Michigan Air National Guard unit which is currently assigned to Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Mich.
