Early air show led to record-setting day – x2!

Fred C. Nelson is seen in a German Fokker biplane, circa 1920. Nelson, who retired as an Air Force colonel in 1950, made a name as a pilot at several air shows during the years between World War I and World War II. He flew this aircraft in several shows in the 1920s and set an air speed record at a show at Selfridge Air National Guard Base in 1934. (U.S. Air Force photo)
