Gen. Hoyt S. Vandenberg, the second chief of staff of the U.S. Air Force, is seen in this photo taken from a 1951 newspaper clipping. Vandenberg was at what is now known as Selfridge Air National Guard Base for the dedication of a new base housing area that had been named in honor of the general’s uncle, U.S. Sen. Arthur H. Vandenberg. There is also a building on the base named in honor of Gen. Vandenberg. (Selfridge Military Air Museum collection)
