Biofuel Testing at Selfridge

Airman 1st Class Jeremy Collins prepares to refuel a bomb loader with assistance from Airman 1st Class Colin Roberts, Sept. 29, 2011. Both Airmen are assigned to the 127th Maintenance Squadron Aerospace Ground Equipment shop at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Mich. The loader operates using Hydrotreated Renewable Jet (HRJ) fuel, a biofuel made from the seeds of the camelina, a non-food crop similar to soybean. Selfridge has served as the cold-weather test site for a number of alternative fuels and energy projects in recent years and has been running HRJ in a variety of ground equipment and vehicles for about eight months (U.S. Air Force photo by TSgt.
