Selfridge breaks ground on super hangar
Community and military members, including Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and a bi-partisan delegation of elected leaders, met on May 15, 2023 for a commemorative groundbreaking ceremony at Selfridge Air National Guard Base to celebrate the start of construction on its newest building. The new 42,000 sq. ft. Hangar 4 will be a $28 million facility to house fighter aircraft at Selfridge as the first step in an ongoing series of renovations to the base. Selfridge honors the contributions of military women
Tech. Sgt. Jessica Chatfield, a crew chief assigned to the 191st Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, is honored to serve her country. She joined the Michigan Air National Guard, inspired by her grandfather, an aircraft mechanic during the Korean War. Chatfield has served in the military for over 18 years and has traveled to over 30 states and countries. She has met hundreds of amazing people and would have never had the opportunity without being a military member. A U.S. Coast Guardsmen harnesses a fellow team member, both with Air Station Detroit, during hoist rescue training at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Michigan, Jan. 7, 2023. Air Station Detroit’s primary missions are search and rescue, law enforcement, domestic icebreaking operations, marine environmental protection, rotary wing air intercept and mission support for more than 200 local, state and federal agencies within an area of responsibility encompassing more than 1,100 miles of shoreline from Saginaw Bay to the St. Lawrence seaway.
