Heat Wave
For SSgt. Craig Fenton, an aircraft hydraulics system journeyman with the 191st Maintenance Squadron, work continues on the flightline at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Mich., on July 20, 2011, as a heatwave rages in the area. Airmen of the 127th Wing rely on hourly Wet Bulb Globe Temperature readings to determine work/rest cycles and proper water intake for those working in extreme conditions. "Obviously, anyone working on the flightline is focused on getting that jet out. It's our responsibility as leaders to ensure the safety of the Airmen out there working," said Maj. Heat Wave
MSgt Lloyd Miller takes a Wet Bulb Globe Temperature reading July 20, 2011, at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Mich. The thermometer device has a computer designed to find the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature, which measures not just temperature, but overall physical stress created by weather conditions. The computer takes into account things like humidity, wind speed and radiant heat exposure. Sergeant Miller is a bioenvironmental engineer with the 127th Wing.

Sept. 11 Remembered
Lt. Col. Doug Champagne, commander of the 107th Fighter Squadron, Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Mich., recalls his experiences on Sept. 11, 2001, during a June 21, 2011, meeting of the Selfridge Base Community Council. Champagne was airborne in an F-16 Falcon, returning from a morning target practice mission, when the terror attacks occured. At far right is Lt, Col.
