Body Found at Selfridge Published March 13, 2014 127tth Wing Public Affairs SELFRIDGE AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Mich. -- A deceased body was discovered at Selfridge Air National Guard Base at 8:39 a.m., Thursday, March 13. The deceased individual is a white male, believed to be in his 30s. The cause of the death is now under investigation. The 127th Security Forces Squadron and Selfridge Fire Department responded to the scene and requested support from local law enforcement. The Michigan State Police is now leading the investigation with cooperation from military security personnel. The body of the individual was discovered on the west side of the base, outside of a base building. The discovery was made by a military member who immediately contacted base security and fire personnel. No identification was found on the body. A base-wide lock-down procedure was briefly ordered by the 127th Wing commander after the body was discovered. The body was discovered prior to the day's scheduled flight operations. All flight operations and other military operations are now operating on the base as regularly scheduled. Comprised of approximately 1,700 personnel and flying both the A-10 Thunderbolt II and the KC-135 Stratotanker, the 127th Wing supports Air Mobility Command, Air Combat Command and Air Force Special Operation Command by providing highly-skilled Airmen to missions domestically and overseas. The 127th Wing is the host unit at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, which marks its 97th year of continuous military air operations in 2014.
