Sanitary sewer overflow test results in

SELFRIDGE AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Mich. --  Test results on two water samples taken after a broken sanitary sewer line was found here earlier this month show no cause for alarm.

The sewer line break reported to base authorities on June 3 resulted in a sanitary sewer overflow of approximately 415,000 gallons of primarily storm water into Lake St. Clair.

The Selfridge Environmental Management Office conducted fecal coliform sampling with results shown to have been within the ranges normally attritbuted to that discharge point.

Lt. Col. Tom Sierakowski, Selfridge Base Civil Engineer, said, "This particular storage well is quite big and holds a lot of storm water. The ratio of the waste that went into the storm drain compared to the water was very low."

In accordance with regulatory protocols, Selfridge continues to work with the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality and the Macomb Public Health Department regarding this incident, providing the agencies this testing data and other information for their review.
