Civil Engineers participate in Global Guardian 2012 Published Feb. 29, 2012 By 127th Public Affairs SELFRIDGE AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Mich. -- Airmen of the 127th Civil Engineer Squadron at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Mich., participated in the Global Guardian 2012 training exercise, Feb. 13-24. During the exercise, more than 1,300 Soldiers and Airmen of the National Guard, as well as members of the Royal Netherland Air Force and Canadian Air Force, trained to respond to a terrorist attack or natural disaster in the U.S. Approximately a half dozen Airmen from the 127th Emergency Management Flight deployed to the Combat Readiness Training Center in Savannah, Ga., participated in the exercise, which included military personnel from more than 20 states. In addition to allowing the participating personnel to work on their individual skills, the exercise provided an opportunity for team building across the various units of the National Guard. The exercise also featured the coordination of air and land units in a simulated wartime environment. The Savannah Combat Readiness Center was chosen due to its distinctive location and central access to air space and field training conditions. The exercise provided an opportunity for the units to train in a realistic joint and multinational environment that simulates the situations seen in modern combat. "You are not going into a combat zone anymore where we are going it alone," said Lt. Col. John Traettino, the Global Guardian exercise director.
