Construction Continues at Selfridge Child Development Center Published Oct. 9, 2012 By Lisa Klebba U.S. Army Garrison - Detroit Arsenal U.S. Army Garrison - Detroit Arsenal, Mich. -- The Child Development Centers at the Detroit Arsenal and at Selfridge Air National Guard Base are undergoing expansions and renovation to increase their childcare capacities. The Detroit Arsenal recently went through a major expansion with the additions of Building 270 and the GSPEL laboratory. With that expansion came the need for additional child care. The Child Development Center is growing to meet that need by adding another 7,400 square feet to its Warren facility. Although the Warren CDC provides quality care for children from six weeks to 10 years of age, the expansion is primarily to accommodate more toddlers. "With a waiting list of 140 children between the ages of six weeks to two years old, we are excited to accept an additional 82 children," said Jackie Uhazie, CDC director. A tentative date of mid-July is set for the grand opening. Along with the expansion in Warren, the CDC is renovating and reopening the Bryant Child Development Center at Selfridge ANGB. The Bryant CDC has the capacity to care for 124 children from the ages of six weeks to 10 years old. The Bryant CDC projected hours of operation are 6:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and is tentatively scheduled to reopen in January. Their services are available to all military members as well as civilians working at the Detroit Arsenal and at Selfridge. To inquire about child care at either facility, please call the Parent Central Office at 586-282-9616.
