The early combat history of the Michigan Air National Guard is re-capped in a series of short summary reports recently created by the 127th Wing.

Summaries of the assignments, mobilizations and related actions of Michigan Citizen-Airmen during World War I, World War II and the Korean War are recounted in a series of four separate reports. All of the reports have been posted to the 127th Wing's web site over the summer months.

The first Michigan flying unit, the 107th Fighter Squadron, was created for service in World War I. The other two Michigan flying units, the 171st and the 172nd squadrons, were born of the second World War. All three units were mobilized for a year of service during the Korean War. All three summaries include a couple of photos from the corresponding era.

The summaries can all be found on the 127th Wing's growing history and heritage page on the Wing's official web site. The page includes links to numerous bits and pieces of Selfridge and Michigan ANG history, including chronologies, aircraft assignment listings, a "this day in history" feature and other information.

Feature story additions to the page over the summer months included:
· An article on the Korean War-era pilots who helped cause Selfridge to be known as the "Home of the MiG Killers" during the 1950s;
· An account of the pilot who broke a world air speed record and a base golf course record in a single day at Selfridge in 1934;
· The story of the future Marine Corps general who survived an aircraft crash in Lake St. Clair;
· The story of how the namesake of the Air Force's Basic Military Training base first made a name for himself at Selfridge;
· Two articles on the contributions of Michigan ANG units and a Michigan Airman contributed to Allied success during the World War II D-Day invasion.

In 2013, the 127th Wing's web site was judged the best web site in the U.S. Air National Guard.
