Selfridge Air Show Road Restrictions Published Aug. 6, 2009 By TSgt Dan Heaton 127th Wing Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Mich. -- The Selfridge Air Show is Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 22-23. The gates open to the public at 8 a.m. and show hours are 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., with flying from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Motorists and residents of the area are advised that traffic volumes around the base are expected to be very heavy both days of the show. Those attending the show are strongly encouraged to arrive early, as long, traffic-related delays to get on the base are common during the show. In addition, when the base reaches visitor parking capacity, access to the base will be restricted. About 180,000 visitors are expected at the base over the two days of the show. Hall Road will be closed between I-94 and Jefferson from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 21-23. North River Road will remain open all three days, though traffic is expected to be very heavy on Saturday and Sunday. To assist motorists who are visiting the base, radio station 87.9FM, which can be heard within a 3-mile radius of the base, will be broadcasting all day Saturday and Sunday and will provide traffic updates, along with other information about the air show. The air show features free admission and free parking. The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds will be performing at the show both days.
