SFS Airmen return after 6 month deployment Published Feb. 12, 2010 By 127th Public Affairs Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Mich. -- Approximately 10 members of the 127th Security Forces Squadron stationed here returned today after a six month deployment to Camp Sather, Baghdad International Airport, Iraq. During this deployment the airmen performed air base ground defense duties guarding people, resources and assets while deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Their duties consisted of quick reactionary force measures, perimeter security, and flightline security. The members returning are a part of a group of about 50 Selfridge ANG Base airmen who deployed last August, the rest of whom will be returning toward the end of this month. Approximately 900 Michigan National Guard Airmen and Soldiers are deployed across the globe in support of the global war on terrorism; however, as the Michigan Guard serves the nation abroad, more than 90 percent of the force is available, trained and ready to respond to a state emergency including a terrorist event.
