Selfridge honors the contributions of military women
Tech. Sgt. Jessica Chatfield, a crew chief assigned to the 191st Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, is honored to serve her country. She joined the Michigan Air National Guard, inspired by her grandfather, an aircraft mechanic during the Korean War. Chatfield has served in the military for over 18 years and has traveled to over 30 states and countries. She has met hundreds of amazing people and would have never had the opportunity without being a military member. Selfridge honors the contributions of military women serving their country to bring awareness to present and past innovative women. (U.S. Air National Guard Photo by Tech. Sgt. Samara Underwood)

Medical team helps Airmen stay ready
SELFRIDGE AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Mich.-- Airman 1st Class Kristen Julius, an aerospace medical technician with the 127th Medical Group here, obtains a routine blood sample from Master Sgt. Daniel Heaton, public affairs superintendent with the 127th Wing Headquarters here on June 23, 2021. Julius said she initially joined the Michigan Air National Guard to gain clinical experience after graduating from Oakland University. “I’ve since grown to love the work that I do, the people I serve with and the community that I serve,” Julius said. At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Julius was part of the 127th Wing’s COVID-19 response team. “I never even dreamed that I would be working on something that important, I felt intimidated at first, as the most junior Airman on the team, but I was treated with respect and felt as if I was really a part of the team," Julius said. "This job challenges me to go above and beyond every day and I love that.” To learn about becoming a member of Michigan’s elite Hometown Air Force, call the 127th Wing Recruiting Office at 1-800-432-4296.

127th Wing stands ready in lieu of snowstorm, shutdown
Tom Kott, an equipment engineer with the 127th Civil Engineering Squadron, Roads and Grounds shop here, diligently clears the snow on base today, operating a heavy-duty Oshkosh snowplow meant for clearing runways, in nearly white-out conditions. Efforts to clear base roads, parking lots, runways and airfield ramps, is necessary to allow our mission to continue unimpeded. Local weather reports estimate a total snowfall of approximately 12 inches this weekend, with the heaviest snowfall of the current storm falling between 6:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. today. Despite the snow accumulation and temperatures in the 20's degree Fahrenheit, Selfridge Air National Guard Base never "closes," it remains open under any prescribed contingency.
