An empty building at Selfridge Air National Guard Base has been renovated and given new life as a customer service center for a credit union. The new building will also soon house the base's Post Office.

The Central Macomb Credit Union held a ribbon cutting on the base on Dec. 18 to celebrate the move to a new location at the corner of Jefferson and George in Building 715. The new location is across the street from the former credit union location and is located near the Selfridge Base Exchange and Commissary. The building formerly housed the base's Package Liquor Store, which was consolidated with the Selfridge Base Exchange in the main exchange building more than a year ago.

The credit union is a long-standing tenant at Selfridge. First opened in 1957 as the Selfridge Air Force Base Credit Union, the financial institution now also operates three other locations in Macomb County. Drema Isaac, the credit union's president and CEO said about a third of the credit union's members have a military affiliation and several members of its board of directors are retired military members from Selfridge.

"I like to think of us as Macomb County's military credit union," she said.
