Gas leak causes evac

SELFRIDGE AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Mich. --  Two administration buildings and the base chapel here were evacuated at approximately 10 a.m. this morning due to a gas leak.

Approximately 60 people were told to leave their work areas by the base fire department and security forces after a construction crew working on a nearby fire hydrant project ruptured a 2 inch gas line. The two administrative buildings house Army tenants. The chapel, with the chaplain and Family Readiness Program offices, were also cleared.

Consumer's Energy is on site to fix the leak.

Comprised of approximately 1,600 personnel and flying both the A-10 Thunderbolt II and the KC-135 Stratotanker, the 127th Wing supports Air Mobility Command, Air Combat Command and Air Force Special Operation Command by providing highly-skilled Airmen to missions domestically and overseas. The 127th Wing is the host unit at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, which marked its 96th year of continuous military air operations in 2013.
