2013 Photos of the Year Published Dec. 31, 2013 127th Wing Public Afairs SELFRIDGE AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Mich. -- Warthogs, Tankers and Airmen. But mostly, Airmen. The 127th Wing's annual Photos of the Year are presented in a new slide show. The photos showcase the wing's two air frames, the A-10 Thunderbolt II - popularly known as the Warthog - and the KC-135 Stratotanker - or "Tanker" in shorthand. Ultimately, every photo shows an Airman of the 127th Wing performing his or her duty to serve our state and nation, following the unique mission set of the Air National Guard. "Our Airmen continue to amaze us every year with their dedication to duty, particularly under some trying circumstances," said Penny Carroll, chief of Public Affairs for the 127th Wing. "It is not only the Public Affairs office's mission, but it is a privilege to be able to document their story through words, video and, in this case, photography." Comprised of approximately 1,700 personnel and flying both the A-10 Thunderbolt II and the KC-135 Stratotanker, the 127th Wing supports Air Mobility Command, Air Combat Command and Air Force Special Operation Command by providing highly-skilled Airmen to missions domestically and overseas. The 127th Wing is the host unit at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, which marked its 96th year of continuous military air operations in 2013.
