Facts Sheets, Photos Added to Web Site Published April 30, 2014 By TSgt. Dan Heaton 127th Wing Public Affairs SELFRIDGE AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Mich. -- Fact sheets highlighting the mission of two Air National Guard units at Selfridge Air National Guard and dozens of photos highlighting the operations of Selfridge-based aircraft have recently been added to the 127th Wing's web site. About four dozen high-resolution images of A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft in flight and pre-flight operations at Selfridge, the Grayling Aerial Gunnery Range and at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz., have recently been added to the site. Selfridge-based KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft are also featured in some of the images. Both aircraft types are operated by the Michigan Air National Guard's 127th Wing, which is the host unit at Selfridge. The A-10s are flown by the 107th Fighter Squadron and the KC-135s are flown by the 171st Air Refueling Squadron. In late April and early May, a number of A-10s and Selfridge Airmen are deployed to Davis-Monthan to support Angel Thunder, the largest joint service, multinational, interagency combat search and rescue exercise. A 127th Wing Public Affairs photojournalist deployed to Davis-Monthan for the exercise. The 127th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron - which is responsible for generating aircraft sorties of the A-10 - and the 127th Mission Support Group are featured in two new fact sheets recently posted on the web site. The MSG provides a range of services at Selfridge, including security and fire protection, engineering and logistics support, personnel functions and other activities. The fact sheets provide an overview of the two units and, in the case of the 127AMXS, gives a brief history of some of the aircraft and deployments supported by the unit in recent years. Both the 127AMXS and 127MSG are subordinate units of the 127th Wing. Comprised of approximately 1,700 personnel and flying both the A-10 Thunderbolt II and the KC-135 Stratotanker, the 127th Wing supports Air Mobility Command, Air Combat Command and Air Force Special Operation Command by providing highly-skilled Airmen to missions domestically and overseas. The 127th Wing is the host unit at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, which marks its 97th year of continuous military air operations in 2014.
