Mortuary Affairs Training at Selfridge

SELFRIDGE AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Mich. --  Air National Guard Airmen from across the country came to Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Mich., for a week of training in mortuary affairs in June. Approximately 30 Force Support troops attended the class and spent a day practicing search and recovery operations.


Amn. 1st Class Emuobosan Ojaerega explained that there are many benefits to the training.  "This training can help us prepare for real world situations: mass casualties, incidents, search and recovery issues, and processing basic entitlements when we lose an Airman in combat," Ojaerega said.

Every year, the Air National Guard Mortuary Affairs classes are held at various host Guard bases. The students leave the class with the training and preparation to recover America's fallen Military members with dignity and respect.  See slideshow of training here.

Comprised of approximately 1,700 personnel and flying both the A-10 Thunderbolt II and the KC-135 Stratotanker, the 127th Wing supports Air Mobility Command, Air Combat Command and Air Force Special Operation Command by providing highly-skilled Airmen to missions domestically and overseas. The 127th Wing is the host unit at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, which marks its 97th year of continuous military air operations in 2014.
