Michigan Airmen Contribute to AFSO 21 Effort

FORT WAYNE IAP, Ind. --  Four Michigan Airmen are helping the Air Force move to streamline a number of training programs in the Air National Guard.

Chief Master Sgt. Mike Carroll, Senior Master Sgt. Brian Henke, Master Sgt. Cory McClusky and Technical Sgt. Charles Cain, representing the emergency management, command post, medical readiness and security forces career fields, are participating in a national gathering in Fort Wayne, Ind., seeking to streamline the ancillary training process in the Air National Guard. The planning meeting, part of the ongoing Air Force Smart Operations for the 21st Century, or AFSO 21, initiative, was hosted by Col. David Augustine, commander of the 122nd Fighter Wing based in Fort Wayne. Augustine is a former vice wing commander at both the 127th Wing at Selfridge Air National Guard Base and at what is now the 110th Airlift Wing in Battle Creek, Mich.

The four Michigan Airmen, all members of the 127th Wing at Selfridge, are providing input into their respective career fields as they work toward a goal of reducing ANG ancillary training requirements by more than 90 percent from current levels. Ancillary training is required of all 106,700 Airmen in the Air National Guard and covers topics such as human trafficking and force protection measures.
