CCAF Requirement on Way For Senior Enlisted Promotion

SELFRIDGE AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Mich. --  A Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) degree will soon be a requirement to obtain senior master sergeant and chief master sergeant positions within the Air National Guard. This requirement is expected to be in place by the end of 2013.

The Air Force is the only branch of the military that offers an associate's degree to its members. An enlisted member may obtain credits toward their CCAF degree through training obtained from their basic military training, technical training schools and professional military education courses. Many of the CCAF requirements may already be satisfied through an Airman's technical school and military training. Credits can also be earned through College Level Examination Program (CLEP) tests to earn the needed credits in speech and written communication, math, social science and humanities. By earning a CCAF degree, senior ANG enlisted members are aligning with active-duty Air Force and AF Reserve members as they are already required to have a CCAF degree for senior enlisted positions.

"All other professional organizations require technical competencies. The CCAF is one way that validates our members professional leadership and technical skills," said Command Chief Master Sgt. Bob Dobson of the 127th Wing.

Currently, 25 percent of the 127th Wing's senior enlisted members and 14% of all enlisted members have already obtained their CCAF degree.
