Lt. Col. Samuel D. Trapasso is the new commander of the 127th Mission Support Group after a change of command ceremony at Selfridge Air National Guard Base on June 4, 2022. Trapasso will replace Col. Daniel Kramer who will take command of the 110th Wing in Battle Creek.

“[Non-commissioned officers] and (junior) enlisted Airmen: become experts in your field but don’t wait until you make the senior ranks to start branching out, joining committees, even exploring other (career fields),” Tapasso advised. “What you build now is what you’ll be leading in very short order.”

As the commander of the 127th MSG, Trapasso will lead several squadrons comprised of more than 500 Airmen, including the 127th Security Forces Squadron, 127th Communications Flight, 127th Force Support Squadron, 127th Logistics Readiness Squadron and the 127th Civil Engineer Squadron.

Trapasso joined the U.S. Army in 1997 and received his commission as an infantry officer in 2002.  He deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom between 2004 and 2006.  After a two-year break in military service, he joined the Vermont Air National Guard in 2008, serving in various roles. Trapasso came to the 127th Wing in 2017, to serve as the 127th Security Forces Squadron commander before promoting to the 127th Force Support Squadron commander role in 2020.
