WEBVTT 00:05.170 --> 00:09.100 Yeah , I 00:09.109 --> 00:11.329 am senior airman , Nathan Wingate and 00:11.340 --> 00:13.451 this is welcome to Selfridge where we 00:13.451 --> 00:15.396 showcase airmen from Selfridge Air 00:15.396 --> 00:18.280 National Guard Base . So welcome to 00:18.290 --> 00:20.500 Selfridge . This is the first segment 00:20.510 --> 00:22.979 of welcome to Selfridge and who better 00:22.989 --> 00:26.030 to have than our new command chief , 00:26.129 --> 00:28.600 Chief Hedrick . How are you ? I'm great . 00:28.610 --> 00:30.666 How are you ? Thanks for having me . 00:30.666 --> 00:33.840 Yes , thank you for joining . Um So we 00:33.849 --> 00:36.071 just want to run through some questions 00:36.071 --> 00:37.793 real fast and introduce you to 00:37.793 --> 00:39.909 Selfridge and then maybe we can walk 00:39.919 --> 00:42.030 around and introduce Selfridge to you 00:42.030 --> 00:44.729 like it . Awesome . So what does your 00:44.740 --> 00:48.380 role as command chief entail ? And how 00:48.389 --> 00:50.445 has your experience prepared you for 00:50.445 --> 00:52.389 the role ? Yeah , I think that the 00:52.389 --> 00:55.180 biggest um part , biggest function uh 00:55.189 --> 00:58.580 of the position is to , to be that 00:58.590 --> 01:02.520 voice um on uh all matters , but 01:02.529 --> 01:04.650 specifically enlisted matters to the 01:04.660 --> 01:06.716 wing commander , certainly concerned 01:06.716 --> 01:08.959 with the morale , welfare care and 01:08.970 --> 01:11.650 feeding of our airmen uh as long as uh 01:11.660 --> 01:13.989 as well as ensuring that they're uh 01:14.000 --> 01:16.111 professionally , personally developed 01:16.111 --> 01:18.278 and , and ready for uh today in future 01:18.278 --> 01:21.449 fights . The experience uh that , that 01:21.459 --> 01:23.348 uh I feel has helped me into this 01:23.348 --> 01:26.379 position . Um again , active duty , two 01:26.389 --> 01:28.556 separate guard units , uh one down the 01:28.556 --> 01:31.110 road at the 1/80 in Toledo , uh one 01:31.120 --> 01:33.319 over at the 1/13 and at joint base 01:33.330 --> 01:35.910 Andrews , um and additional 01:35.919 --> 01:38.030 opportunities that have come along my 01:38.030 --> 01:41.779 way . Uh I think uh fully encompasses 01:41.790 --> 01:44.012 the experiences for the position that I 01:44.012 --> 01:47.449 have today . Awesome . Awesome . So , 01:47.459 --> 01:50.370 uh can you elaborate on matters with uh 01:50.379 --> 01:53.650 advising for the enlisted force ? Yeah . 01:53.660 --> 01:55.882 II , I think we have to understand that 01:55.882 --> 01:58.049 every decision that the wing commander 01:58.049 --> 02:01.050 makes um typically has an enlisted 02:01.059 --> 02:04.300 person behind it . Um So it's uh a 02:04.309 --> 02:07.089 cumbent upon this position to be able 02:07.099 --> 02:10.350 to provide uh that practical advice 02:10.529 --> 02:12.949 um to be concerned with blind spots 02:12.960 --> 02:15.419 that may not be considered uh just a 02:15.429 --> 02:18.039 different perspective of items that 02:18.050 --> 02:20.217 occur throughout the week . What would 02:20.217 --> 02:22.389 you say as command chief would be your 02:22.399 --> 02:25.039 top three priorities point of 02:25.050 --> 02:28.690 clarification first . Um My priorities 02:28.699 --> 02:31.399 are General Brancato's priorities . Uh 02:31.410 --> 02:34.270 So of course , people , mission teams 02:34.289 --> 02:36.470 top of the list , everything , day in 02:36.479 --> 02:39.619 day out . Um I , I think with my 02:39.630 --> 02:41.740 position , it's ensuring that our 02:41.750 --> 02:43.929 airmen are taken care of . They have 02:43.940 --> 02:45.899 the right uh and equitable 02:45.910 --> 02:48.320 opportunities throughout the wing for 02:48.330 --> 02:50.539 uh development , advancement , et 02:50.550 --> 02:53.660 cetera . Uh And that we are uh again 02:53.669 --> 02:56.500 ready uh for , for the fight , just , 02:56.509 --> 02:58.940 just like our , our motto is we stand 02:58.949 --> 03:01.500 ready . Uh and readiness is , is a key 03:01.509 --> 03:05.470 item for that . So what 03:05.479 --> 03:08.029 have been your initial impressions of 03:08.039 --> 03:11.889 the 1 27th , large base , 03:11.899 --> 03:14.449 big base , a lot of mission partners uh 03:14.460 --> 03:17.500 was able to work the the main gate on 03:17.509 --> 03:19.759 my first day . Uh and , and seeing 03:19.770 --> 03:22.570 everyone come in it , it was uh it was 03:22.580 --> 03:24.524 amazing . I knew that it was a big 03:24.524 --> 03:26.636 presence here . Really wasn't until I 03:26.636 --> 03:28.747 did that until I realized it . Um But 03:28.747 --> 03:30.691 team Selfridge as a whole has been 03:30.691 --> 03:32.913 great . It's been a very warm welcome . 03:32.913 --> 03:35.169 Um And I , I look forward to just 03:35.179 --> 03:37.512 diving head first into the culture here . 03:37.529 --> 03:39.751 Awesome . Thank you . What advice would 03:39.751 --> 03:43.000 you give to the enlisted force ? I 03:43.009 --> 03:45.120 would , I would like to say that this 03:45.120 --> 03:47.350 isn't advice just to enlist it . Um but 03:47.360 --> 03:50.979 all members um make your own luck . 03:51.320 --> 03:54.460 So what I mean by that is um be fully 03:54.470 --> 03:58.160 prepared , um ensure that um 03:58.169 --> 04:01.339 all of your uh requirements are met and 04:01.350 --> 04:04.059 all of your PM E is accomplished um 04:04.440 --> 04:06.679 before it is needed , but also take 04:06.690 --> 04:09.869 strategic risks . Um I , I could 04:09.880 --> 04:11.936 probably name four or five strategic 04:11.936 --> 04:13.991 risks that I've made in my career to 04:13.991 --> 04:16.619 get me to where I'm at today . Um And , 04:16.630 --> 04:18.408 and part of that was just being 04:18.408 --> 04:20.859 prepared to make those , those risks . 04:20.869 --> 04:22.980 Is there anything else that you would 04:22.980 --> 04:25.750 like to add ? Uh Again , thank you . 04:25.760 --> 04:27.649 Big . Thank you to , to , to team 04:27.649 --> 04:29.871 Selfridge , right ? This has been uh an 04:29.871 --> 04:32.839 amazing uh first few days , first few 04:32.850 --> 04:35.839 weeks . Uh I'm excited uh beyond 04:35.850 --> 04:38.140 excited to be here . Um But I would be 04:38.149 --> 04:40.950 remiss if I didn't say um uh a big 04:40.959 --> 04:43.630 thank you to , to Chief Gordon . Uh the 04:43.640 --> 04:45.950 guy uh is a legend here . He's been 04:45.959 --> 04:48.470 around here . Um And , and certainly 04:48.480 --> 04:51.510 help set the path uh so big . Thank you 04:51.519 --> 04:54.190 to , to him for it . Uh And then to the 04:54.200 --> 04:56.311 members of Team Selfridge . Uh I look 04:56.311 --> 04:58.367 forward to seeing you around hearing 04:58.367 --> 05:00.533 your story uh and , and helping out in 05:00.533 --> 05:02.589 any way that I can . Awesome . Thank 05:02.589 --> 05:04.422 you g thanks . I appreciate it . 05:04.422 --> 05:06.644 Absolutely . Thank you for watching and 05:06.644 --> 05:08.700 welcome to Selfridge . Who knows you 05:08.700 --> 05:09.190 might be next .
