WEBVTT 00:03.029 --> 00:05.550 Good morning and welcome to the Road to 00:05.559 --> 00:07.630 Drill podcast . Good morning . Good 00:07.639 --> 00:10.399 morning . How are you doing ? I'm great . 00:10.409 --> 00:12.465 Uh We're doing this on video now . A 00:12.465 --> 00:14.576 couple of tips I picked up when I was 00:14.576 --> 00:16.687 in Estonia , they record all of their 00:16.687 --> 00:18.680 podcasts on video and then they 00:18.690 --> 00:20.746 rebroadcast them . So I'm like , why 00:20.746 --> 00:22.968 can't we do that ? We have all the same 00:22.968 --> 00:25.780 equipment . So let's do it . Absolutely 00:25.809 --> 00:28.979 big drill coming up . It's been a very 00:29.000 --> 00:31.579 crazy month . Uh probably , you know , 00:31.590 --> 00:33.534 since air defender , it's been our 00:33.534 --> 00:35.534 busiest period , I would say coming 00:35.534 --> 00:37.590 right out of last drill . We went in 00:37.590 --> 00:39.757 the northern strike . Uh That actually 00:39.757 --> 00:41.757 started while we were at drill . We 00:41.757 --> 00:43.868 know our members here in P A went out 00:43.868 --> 00:46.034 the door on Sunday of that drill up to 00:46.034 --> 00:47.979 Alpena and Grayling . There were a 00:47.979 --> 00:50.146 couple of key training events that the 00:50.146 --> 00:53.115 1 27th Wing participated in . One was 00:53.125 --> 00:55.724 the Wet Wing Deuel and Hot refuel at 00:55.955 --> 00:58.154 civilian airports around the state , 00:58.165 --> 01:00.875 including Saginaw and as we were up in 01:00.884 --> 01:02.995 Saginaw . Yeah , we got to see that . 01:02.995 --> 01:05.184 So , whereas everybody gets to see the 01:05.194 --> 01:08.830 A tens conduct IC TS and refueling on 01:08.839 --> 01:11.349 the ground , the KC 1 30 fives are 01:11.360 --> 01:14.819 doing it too . And so we wing Deuel and 01:14.830 --> 01:17.052 how refueling is part of that . And you 01:17.052 --> 01:19.274 can learn more about those processes by 01:19.274 --> 01:21.330 going to the 1 27th wing website and 01:21.330 --> 01:23.108 reading some of the stories and 01:23.108 --> 01:25.330 checking out the video that you also up 01:25.330 --> 01:27.441 north at Graying at the Grayling Army 01:27.441 --> 01:29.441 airfield . The 1 27th medical group 01:29.441 --> 01:31.580 practiced uh critical care , aerial 01:31.589 --> 01:34.779 transport and in route patient staging . 01:34.790 --> 01:38.209 So this is a joint exercise that 01:38.220 --> 01:40.889 combines the efforts of the army , the 01:40.900 --> 01:43.319 battlefield medics , the ground 01:43.330 --> 01:45.441 transportation for these patients and 01:45.441 --> 01:47.330 then the staging kind of like the 01:47.330 --> 01:49.760 triage for members that are critically 01:49.769 --> 01:51.880 injured , whether they're going to be 01:51.880 --> 01:54.047 treated there on the ground or need to 01:54.047 --> 01:57.500 be uh medevaced out of the war zone to 01:57.510 --> 02:00.080 a more advanced care facility . So uh 02:00.089 --> 02:02.419 they practiced that for a week and uh 02:02.430 --> 02:05.779 we also got to witness that and uh 02:05.790 --> 02:08.012 there's content out on the website . Uh 02:08.012 --> 02:10.234 So check that out a lot of great things 02:10.234 --> 02:13.970 the medical groups doing also with the 02:13.979 --> 02:16.139 air refueling group . They are about 02:16.149 --> 02:18.610 mid tour right now with their 2023 02:18.619 --> 02:21.570 deployment to Centcom . So they're in 02:21.580 --> 02:24.199 the middle of swapping some crews . How 02:24.210 --> 02:26.179 is that ? Yeah . So our typical 02:26.190 --> 02:28.789 deployments are six months and they 02:28.800 --> 02:31.100 have a designated number of assets that 02:31.110 --> 02:33.110 they're filling in their deployment 02:33.110 --> 02:35.429 package . So they broke that up into 23 02:35.440 --> 02:38.500 month groups . So the first three month 02:38.509 --> 02:40.565 group , which felt like it just went 02:40.565 --> 02:42.620 out the door . Uh , they're about to 02:42.620 --> 02:44.565 come back and we're gonna send out 02:44.565 --> 02:46.787 their replacements . Excellent . Also , 02:46.787 --> 02:48.731 last week we had Governor Gretchen 02:48.731 --> 02:50.809 Whitner out . Uh , she was able to 02:50.820 --> 02:53.990 witness some of the activities of the 02:54.000 --> 02:56.580 1:27 a.m. XS . Uh , she got to go 02:56.589 --> 02:58.929 around and do some hands-on , uh , 02:58.940 --> 03:01.690 maintenance with our members and also 03:01.699 --> 03:04.350 take part in a integrated combat turn , 03:04.360 --> 03:07.080 which is really cool . So , uh 03:08.210 --> 03:11.039 ok . Did she turn a wrench ? She did 03:11.050 --> 03:13.199 turn a wrench . Yeah , she turned a 03:13.210 --> 03:15.043 wrench a bunch of times . It was 03:15.059 --> 03:18.729 impressive . Yeah , several wrenches 03:19.149 --> 03:21.482 and along with uh turning some wrenches , 03:21.482 --> 03:23.538 she got to assist in launching a jet 03:23.630 --> 03:25.852 with the crew chiefs . Yeah . So it was 03:25.852 --> 03:28.130 really cool . Finally , this past week , 03:28.130 --> 03:31.850 the navy uh called upon the wing to uh 03:31.860 --> 03:35.289 help with some for aircraft that were 03:35.300 --> 03:38.160 in the path of the hurricane . Right . 03:38.169 --> 03:40.169 Right . And that I've been here six 03:40.169 --> 03:42.391 years and I feel every year around this 03:42.391 --> 03:45.589 time we help evacuate um 03:45.600 --> 03:48.479 aircraft that are in the path of 03:48.669 --> 03:50.669 hurricane , we're , we're perfectly 03:50.669 --> 03:52.725 suited for it . And with the size of 03:52.725 --> 03:55.729 our ramps , uh our abilities to uh sort 03:55.740 --> 03:58.449 of answer that call 24 hours a day and , 03:58.460 --> 04:00.627 and our ground maintenance here at the 04:00.627 --> 04:02.960 base , uh it's really an ideal location . 04:02.960 --> 04:05.071 Um and the weather here in Michigan , 04:05.071 --> 04:07.071 we don't get hurricanes . So it's a 04:07.071 --> 04:09.238 good place you want to stash your , we 04:09.238 --> 04:11.419 have a lot of ramp space . So this 04:11.429 --> 04:13.762 weekend , what's happening this weekend ? 04:13.770 --> 04:15.881 So we're going to have a fun sandwich 04:15.881 --> 04:18.679 this weekend , we're going to have the 04:18.690 --> 04:21.500 first part of the bread is today . We 04:21.510 --> 04:23.566 have the Family Day . We're going to 04:23.566 --> 04:26.299 welcome wing members and family and 04:26.309 --> 04:29.200 we're gonna show them appreciation and 04:29.209 --> 04:31.042 we're going to have a barbecue . 04:31.042 --> 04:33.209 There's gonna be a little Caesars love 04:33.209 --> 04:35.320 kitchen . Um , there's gonna be all 04:35.329 --> 04:37.559 sorts of activities for kids and we're 04:37.570 --> 04:39.737 just gonna hang out and you know , get 04:39.737 --> 04:41.737 to know each other petting zoo this 04:41.737 --> 04:45.579 year . Ok . And that'll be today 04:45.730 --> 04:48.070 and tomorrow we're gonna have the meat 04:48.079 --> 04:50.109 of the sandwich and that's gonna be 04:50.200 --> 04:52.311 mission . Right . Right . So should I 04:52.311 --> 04:54.533 talk about the other ? No , we can talk 04:54.533 --> 04:56.700 about meat . So the meat that Sergeant 04:56.700 --> 04:58.756 Fitzpatrick is referring to is we're 04:58.756 --> 05:00.756 gonna have a sea burn exercise . So 05:00.756 --> 05:02.978 give us a chance to suit up in our chem 05:02.978 --> 05:05.144 gear and go over some of the processes 05:05.144 --> 05:07.478 for chemical , biological , radioactive , 05:07.478 --> 05:11.339 nuclear . And thank you , that is going 05:11.350 --> 05:14.679 to take place between 08 and 11 a.m. 05:14.690 --> 05:17.709 tomorrow . So that's gonna be the whole 05:17.720 --> 05:19.942 wing , the whole wing is taking part in 05:19.942 --> 05:21.998 that . So it's something we do every 05:21.998 --> 05:24.220 year . We're actually going to be doing 05:24.220 --> 05:23.859 it multiple times per year here with 05:23.869 --> 05:26.820 our ready airman training . So this is 05:26.829 --> 05:29.051 kind of a precursor to what we're going 05:29.051 --> 05:31.162 to be uh practicing on a more regular 05:31.162 --> 05:34.329 basis . So coming out of that sea burn 05:34.339 --> 05:36.559 exercise tomorrow , uh , we will have 05:36.570 --> 05:38.679 our annual five K here at the base . 05:38.690 --> 05:41.570 The running of the hogs that starts out 05:41.579 --> 05:44.920 on the flight line at 1400 . So members 05:44.929 --> 05:47.151 are already registered for that . But , 05:47.151 --> 05:49.151 uh , you can still run if you would 05:49.151 --> 05:51.350 like to run . I think it's easy 05:51.359 --> 05:53.709 sometimes to forget or take for granted 05:53.720 --> 05:55.942 the mission that we have here And while 05:55.942 --> 05:58.053 we talk about how busy we are all the 05:58.053 --> 06:00.670 time , it's not just fun and games , 06:00.679 --> 06:02.901 we're here to do our military mission , 06:02.901 --> 06:05.130 right ? So all of that agile combat 06:05.140 --> 06:07.359 employment , all of the KC 1 35 . What 06:07.369 --> 06:11.119 wing D the , the er PS those 06:11.130 --> 06:13.241 are real world missions and those are 06:13.241 --> 06:15.408 preparing us for the fight . We got an 06:15.408 --> 06:18.109 email this morning from a direct and 06:18.119 --> 06:21.450 part of that is reemphasizing our push 06:21.459 --> 06:23.570 to change how we do things so that we 06:23.570 --> 06:25.515 can continue to be better . And he 06:25.515 --> 06:27.515 posted two questions , ask yourself 06:27.519 --> 06:30.019 this if we were to go to war with a 06:30.029 --> 06:32.239 peer adversary today ? Are we ready ? 06:32.250 --> 06:34.600 Do we think we're ready ? And how can 06:34.609 --> 06:37.079 we become more ready in our existing 06:37.089 --> 06:39.540 organizations ? So while we're wearing 06:39.549 --> 06:42.040 our mop gear on Sunday , we should all 06:42.049 --> 06:43.970 keep that in mind , right . So uh 06:43.980 --> 06:46.100 coming up in the month of September , 06:46.109 --> 06:48.589 it is actually Suicide Awareness Month . 06:48.600 --> 06:51.709 So later on today , uh Mr Chad Bishop 06:51.720 --> 06:53.776 is going to be in to talk about some 06:53.776 --> 06:55.998 prevention methods and just the general 06:55.998 --> 06:58.059 awareness of it , you know , uh 22 06:58.070 --> 07:01.049 veterans per day still are committing 07:01.059 --> 07:03.959 suicide on average . So it really is . 07:03.970 --> 07:06.070 And it's a terrible thing and I , I 07:06.079 --> 07:08.109 don't think there's anyone in our 07:08.119 --> 07:10.063 viewing or listening audience that 07:10.063 --> 07:12.341 hasn't been affected by it in some way . 07:12.341 --> 07:14.175 So that's why we take a month to 07:14.175 --> 07:16.397 recognize the prevention and just , you 07:16.397 --> 07:18.508 know , again , general awareness . So 07:18.508 --> 07:20.730 coming up later this month , we go into 07:20.730 --> 07:22.869 Hispanic Heritage Month . So that 07:22.880 --> 07:25.102 starts on the 15th and runs to the 15th 07:25.102 --> 07:28.779 of October . And then we also 07:28.790 --> 07:31.029 celebrate a birthday this month . Happy 07:31.070 --> 07:33.440 birthday . United States Air Force Air 07:33.450 --> 07:36.970 Force is a Virgo . Um How old are we ? 07:36.980 --> 07:40.619 Uh 1947 the Air Force was 07:40.630 --> 07:42.852 established as a separate branch of the 07:42.852 --> 07:45.019 military . 70 07:45.059 --> 07:49.049 76 76 . We are 07:49.059 --> 07:52.790 76 . Wow . And during our 07:52.799 --> 07:54.890 service time we've seen the birth of 07:54.899 --> 07:58.399 even another service Space Force . So , 07:58.459 --> 08:00.737 yeah , pretty cool . That's all I have . 08:00.737 --> 08:02.681 Do you have anything else ? No , I 08:02.681 --> 08:05.154 think that's it . Well , again , please 08:05.165 --> 08:07.387 stay tuned . We're going to have , like 08:07.387 --> 08:09.276 I said , we're gonna have Mr Chad 08:09.276 --> 08:11.054 Bishop in to talk about suicide 08:11.054 --> 08:13.109 prevention . And also we're going to 08:13.109 --> 08:15.276 hear from our commander General Bron . 08:15.276 --> 08:17.524 So stay tuned for that , but otherwise 08:17.535 --> 08:19.646 have a fantastic drill . Have a great 08:19.646 --> 08:21.868 jo and Happy birthday Air Force . Happy 08:21.868 --> 08:23.244 birthday , Air Force . Take care
