127th Wing Puts Focus on Customer Service

SELFRIDGE AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Mich. – No matter what career field, customer service should be a part of every Airmen’s job description.
The 127th Wing Commander Brig. Gen. John D. Slocum has emphasized that everyone in the Wing is in the business of customer service. In this day and age of technology, Slocum noted that it is easy for Airmen to dehumanize their interactions.
“We want to re-humanize our customer service by looking people in the eye and taking care of our Airmen,” Slocum said. 'Everyone should be treated with dignity and respect.'
At the mobility equipment storage facility at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Airman 1st Class Sarah Henkel works with local Airmen to ensure they have all of their deployment gear.
“I help the Wing members as quickly as possible so they are mission ready,” said Henkel, a material management specialist with the 127th Mission Support Group. She said she aims to service her customers with a smile and with efficiency as she distributes necessary mobility equipment and supplies to Airmen.
On her first day as a member of the 127th Wing, Airman 1st Class Melissa Alotta was among those being issued gear by Henkel.
“So far I have experienced great customer service,” said Alotta, who will work as an administrator with the 191st Maintenance Squadron.
The same attitude is echoed in the 127th Comptroller Flight, where Senior Airman Chris Hall works as a travel pay technician.
“Customer service is the backbone of my mission,” Hall said. “My values are dictated by my ability to solve, and help with financial solutions that ultimately keep the Wing’s multiple units, mission ready.” said Hall.
