You are only as successful as the “Team” you are a part of

SELFRIDGE AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Mich. --
It is true that many people join the military for college, large bonuses, medical benefits, travel, or possibly a job. Granted, it is a motivator, but it's not the be-all-end-all of reasons. I believe we have an inherent sense of selflessness that is engrained in each of us. We serve because we love this country, we love the freedoms and we want others to have the successes and freedoms we enjoy.
Teams are formed. We are Airmen with a common cause, preference, liking, and attitude working together for a common goal.
"Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success - Henry Ford"
Teamwork is significant because it allows us to work more effectively and efficiently. Our work / mission can be extremely complex and requires the diversity of skills and abilities a team provides.
The most important teamwork "skill" is the ability to communicate effectively. This includes speaking knowledgeably, as well as listening with an open mind. Other teamwork skills or traits that correlate with group achievement include commitment to the team, thinking intelligently, supporting other team members' ideas and being unafraid to get involved.
Finally, I want to talk to you about commitment. All other teamwork skills are useless without a commitment to the team. With this commitment to the team, members should be willing to take on any role necessary to accomplish the required tasks, whether it is a leadership role or a subordinate role. It is imperative for our all of us to work collaboratively together towards a common goal.
We as a team can solve problems together; depend upon each other; grow and learn from each other; enjoy successes together.
In the words of Michael Jordan: Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence wins championships.
I challenge all of us not to forget to fulfill all the inherent reasons Why We Serve!
Let's continue to Work Together and Win Together!!
